Read this article and weep.
“The issue going forward is how many of the Avengers stars and starlets are still bound by early agreements and longterm options which Marvel can continue to exploit individually. To counter, I’ve learned the Avengers cast are becoming united behind Robert Downey Jr who is seen as the “leader” – like “a big brother” in the words of one rep - for all the younger actors in the ensemble. “He’s the only guy with real power in this situation. and balls of steel, too. He’s already sent a message that he’s not going to work for a place where they treat his colleagues like shit,” one source explains. Another rep tells me, “I have four words for Marvel – ‘Fuck you, call Robert.’”

We just reported that Robert Downey Jr is in talks with Marvel to return for “The Avengers 2” and “The Avengers 3.” But the actor isn’t even discussing “Iron Man 4,” and we may now know why.
Downey earned somewhere between $50 million and $80 million on “The Avengers,” and has already earned over $35 million for his work on “Iron Man 3,” but his “The Avengers” co-stars aren’t making anything close to that. In fact, most of the actors are being paid around $200,000, far less than they would earn on any other movie.
Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth received only a $500,000 pay increase for returning for the “Captain America” and “Thor” sequels. And unlike Downey, the actors will earn only $500,000 more if their movies break the $500 million mark at the box office.
Despite having a contract, Hemsworth considered backing out of “Thor 2,” because he earned $5 million working on “Snow White and the Huntsman” and Marvel isn’t offering anywhere near that, despite the fact that “Thor” and “The Avengers” are massive franchises. Scarlett Johansson is also fed up and isn’t willing to take a pay-cut to return for “The Avengers 2.”
Marvel is known for low salaries and replacing any actor who doesn’t accept the company’s way of doing business. In fact, the studio has already threatened to replace Hemsworth. But Marvel doesn’t want to replace Downey at this point and it seems that the actor is using that leverage to fight for his co-stars by threatening not to return for “Iron Man4” and possibly any other Marvel film unless they all get appropriate pay raises.
If people didn’t read The Daily Bugle before, I’m sure they do now.
I read this comic. This seriously happened.
#Tony isn’t the all-American good guy kid of superhero #It’s not that he doesn’t know how to be selfless or put the cause above himself #It’s that he doesn’t know how to show that he doesn’t FEEL like the all-American good guy #So he hides behind different masks #One as Iron Man #And one as Tony Stark #genius billionaire playboy philanthropist #who jokes about the most important things #and acts like he has everything under control #because he needs to #because he’s afraid if people look close enough they’ll see how he really feels #how he isn’t ‘good’ enough #and he doesn’t feel like he’s worth it #so when push comes to shove #he’ll take the course of action that will take himself out of the equation #or make people hate him #so everyone else makes it out okay #because he may not be worth it #but if he can save as many people as possible #then THAT is worth it to him
Hi Tumblr comics fans,
Let’s accomplish some social good today. The organization One Million Moms, who describe themselves as “a network of Christian mothers and grandmothers taking a stand for our children who are exploited by the entertainment industry”, have recently released a statement asking for a write-in campaign to Marvel (owned by Disney) and DC (owned by Warner Bros.) asking them to “change and cancel all plans of homosexual superhero characters immediately”.
This is in direct relation to Marvel’s first gay marriage in Astonishing X-Men #50 and DC announcing a reveal of a male, iconic character’s sexual identity being changed from previous incarnations. One Million Moms goes on to say things like,
Children desire to be just like superheroes. Children mimic superhero actions and even dress up in costumes to resemble these characters as much as possible. Can you imagine little boys saying, “I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men?”
This is ridiculous! Why do adult gay men need comic superheroes as role models? They don’t but do want to indoctrate impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light. These companies are heavily influencing our youth by using children’s superheroes to desensitize and brainwash them in thinking that a gay lifestyle choice is normal and desirable. As Christians, we know that homosexuality is a sin (Romans 1:26-27).
This is yet again another example of the bigotry from close-minded individuals. Obviously they have no problem referencing Romans 1:26-27, but heavens forbid they take a gander at Matthew 7:1 (Judge not, that you be not judged.). I won’t even touch the stereotypical gender roles this organization is promoting.
What can you do? Easy! Let’s lets overwhelm their voice. For every email Marvel or DC receives asking to remove homosexual elements from comics, let’s send them emails congratulating them on the steps they are taking and showing support for their editorial and creative decisions. Tweet them and let them know you are proud to support gay characters and gay marriage in comics.
One Million Moms Twitter (Note: Let’s try to be civil when explaining why their bigotry is unacceptable. Sometimes it pays to take the high road.)
I hope this post gets some traction, so if you support this cause please reblog for a signal boost.
Marvel Comics makes history with a gay X-Men marriage.
Marvel Comics’ Astonishing X-Men is set to experience a new sound effect on top of its booms, whams, and sknits: the bong of wedding bells. Specifically, it’s the wedding bells of Marvel’s first gay marriage between longtime X-Man Northstar and his civilian boyfriend, Kyle. After pairing up the couple in 2009, Marvel is officially tying their knot in June’s Astonishing X-Men #51. (x)
